Description

This 15th–16th century steel gorget recreates the essential armor worn by soldiers and footmen during the transition from chainmail to full plate. By the late Middle Ages, gorgets like this one protected the vulnerable neck and collar area ,  especially when helmets left gaps at the throat.

Made from mild steel, this gorget is available in 18 gauge, letting you choose between authenticity and lighter wear. The curved form and central ridge follow period shaping techniques, while the riveted border and rolled edges ensure both strength and historical accuracy.

Fitted to sit comfortably over a gambeson or hauberk, this gorget was commonly worn by pikemen, crossbowmen, and infantry units from the late 1400s into the early Renaissance. Its flared plates helped deflect strikes and served as a base for mounting spaulders or pauldrons in full harnesses.

Whether you’re assembling a late-medieval kit, outfitting a foot soldier display, or adding realism to a battlefield costume, this piece brings period accuracy with a rugged build.
