Hand-forged from 16 gauge steel, this shield boss has a distinct conical shape with a natural finish that shows its rugged, handforged look. Historically, shield bosses protected the warrior’s hand positioned behind the shield grip while also helping to deflect blows during combat.
The rim of the Germanic Shield Boss includes four evenly spaced mounting holes, so that it can be securely attached to a wooden shield. This makes it an excellent choice for DIY shield projects, historical reproductions, and shield restorations.
