This 15th Century Steel Breastplate– front takes inspiration from transitional armor worn in the late 1400s into the early 1500s—when knights and soldiers needed gear that could handle both battle and show. Made from 18-gauge mild steel, it’s strong enough for action while still light enough to wear for extended events.
Formed from a single steel sheet using cold-forging, the chest plate features a central ridge for added deflection and strength — a style used by foot soldiers and armored men-at-arms during this era. The neckline and edges are carefully rolled to reduce discomfort and prevent pinching.
A set of brass rivets lines the lower rim, adding reinforcement while also lending a knightly look to the piece. The inside is finished in black paint, offering basic protection against corrosion and a striking contrast when worn or displayed.
The armor is held in place by crossed leather straps at the shoulders and side-adjustment belts, allowing you to fit it over padding, gambesons, or mail. Designed as a front-only piece, this type of armor was common among troops who needed protection without the bulk or price of full plate kits.
