This hand-forged spear butt cap is a faithful copy of those used on Viking and medieval spears. Often called a spear shoe or ferrule, it was fitted to the base of the shaft to stop the wood from splitting, add balance, and give extra weight. The rounded taper and split socket design are based on historical finds, letting the piece grip the spear shaft firmly when pinned through the hole.
Besides protecting the shaft, these fittings could also serve as a secondary striking end, making them a useful part of a warrior’s weapon. Examples of this style were used from Roman times through the Viking Age. Each piece is forged from iron with a dark, battle-worn look, carrying the unique marks of traditional blacksmith work.
Ideal for reenactments, LARP, or historical collections, this butt cap brings strength and authenticity to any spear build.
